Montura pe care o utilizați este cel puțin la fel de importantă ca tubul telescopului. Ar trebui să fie destul de solidă pentru a susține telescopul fără a produce vibrații semnificative.
Fiecare montură are două axuri: în cazul monturilor alt-azimutale, telescopul este mișcat în altitudine și orizontal (azimut). În cazul monturilor ecuatoriale, o axă este aliniată paralel cu axa de rotație a Pământului. Acest lucru este absolut necesar pentru astrofotografie atunci când se utilizează timpi lungi de expunere. O montură foto este suficientă pentru utilizarea unei camere cu obiective interschimbabile. Acestea sunt ideale pentru excursii!
Termenul GoTo înseamnă că montura este controlată de calculator. Acest lucru face localizarea și urmărirea obiectelor astronomice mult mai ușoară.
